Early on while studying Editorial Illustration at The Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto Martin was performing in theatre during his summers. The performing eventually took over and he left art college in his final year to perform in Nice, France for a summer. For the next 13 years or so Martin was lucky enough to perform across Canada and the US in productions of Cats, The Stratford Festival, A Chorus Line, Phantom of the Opera with Colm Wilkinson, Sunset Boulevard with Diahann Carroll (original Canadian soundtrack recording), and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond. While performing Martin kept up his art with painting commissions and learning digital art in his spare time. In 1998 Martin left performing to focus full time on his art.
